Chrome Plating Facilities

What is the current state of regulation for plating facilities?

On October 25, 2019, the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) sent investigative orders to over 250 chrome plating facilities in California. These investigative orders required assessment of soil and groundwater as well as effluent wastewater and stormwater runoff if the targeted facility used PFAS-containing materials (usually fume-suppressants) in their operations.

If these facilities did not perform chrome plating, or if fume suppressants were not used, disposed of, discharged, spilled, or released in any way to the land, drains, sewers, surface water, air, and/or groundwater, they may instead fill out and submit a questionnaire included in the letter.

The letter requires that the investigation and preparation of investigation documents must be completed by a California licensed Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer. The signature, stamp, and contact information for the Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer acting in responsible charge must be present in the work plan and investigation report.

Group Delta has experience with PFAS soil and groundwater sampling and has California licensed Professional Geologists and Professional Engineers that can act in responsible charge of these sampling and reporting requirements.
