Attorneys General from Eighteen States and DC Co-Sign Joint Letter Urging the Passage of the Bipartisan PFAS Action Act
The Attorneys General of eighteen states (New York, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Iowa, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin) along with the District of Columbia signed a joint letter to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works urging the chamber to pass the bipartisan PFAS Action Act. In urging the Senate to pass the PFAS Action Act, the Attorneys General highlighted seven legislative priorities the Committee should address in considering passage of the Act: (1) Designating PFAS “Hazardous Substances” Under CERCLA; (2) Designating PFAS “Hazardous Air Pollutants” under the Clean Air Act and prohibiting the incineration of PFAS; (3) Establishing national primary drinking water regulations for PFAS and controlling PFAS discharges; (4) Providing funding to drinking water providers to remediate PFAS in drinking water; (5) Providing funding to states to remediate PFAS contamination; (6) Making medical screenings widely available; and (7) Prohibiting the use and limiting the storage of firefighting foam containing PFAS at federal facilities. The PFAS Action Act continues to garner increased attention as it awaits passage in the Senate.
